Participantis it possible to be portable
just like “virtual drive manager”November 30, 2009 at 03:19 #1148support
KeymasterUnfortunately, this is technically impossible. WinCDEmu includes a kernel driver for virtual CD bus. Without having the driver installed, no machine will be able to mount the images. Installing the driver every time for the image and uninstalling afterwards would cause ~30sec. delays for every image, that is not feasible.

ParticipantHopefully you won’t get too annoyed that I’m reviving this thread.
However I would love for WinCDEmu to go portable, “Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel”(http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/mount-cd-dvd-disk-images-using-a-portable-app/) is portable with an interface that installs and uninstalls the driver when needed, can this not be implemented, this would do away with the 30 second delay between images.
The reason I don’t use this program instead is largely that your excellent programs handles a manifold of image types, whilst the “VCDCP” is limited. At least in theory could you tell me what the difficulty in achieving this. I also think that with the rise of portable software this would be a great way of getting wider recognition.
Anyway I hope you reconsider.

ParticipantI also wish to be WinCDEmu portable. Exactly the same way as “Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel” is. In Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel you can install und uninstall driver whenever you want. That’s perfect. But Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel is not working in Vista anymore. And I don’t know any other DVD emulation “portable” software. Maybe the WinCDEmu can be the first program working this way in Vista 😉 ? It is too much work to do it portable?

ParticipantWould really appreciate to have it portable, meaning using it from an usb drive without to have to install it everywhere.

ParticipantHello,
I would like to have some portable version, too. I really hope that you can make it possible, because I think that more and more people would like the advantages of portable software.
Kind regards,

ParticipantSounds pretty great. I currently use Daemon Tools Lite, but I might give this one a try.
