Using smartty to connect to a Windows 7 machine with the system language set to Japanese, text is properly displayed except that there is an extra wide space inserted between all Japanese characters kanji as well as kana and numbers. It appears that double byte characters get an extra space while single byte characters do not. I can live with this but I would prefer a proper display. I tried a few fonts other than Courier but in each case I got a message saying the font I selected was not fixed width. (The client machine also runs Windows 7 with the system language set to Japanese.)
