WinCDEmu is not able to mount an ISO over a DFS (distributed file system) UNC path. When trying to mount the ISO one gets the error “The network location cannot be reached. For information about network troubleshooting, see Windows Help.”. We tried the following:
- opening the folder containing the ISO using path pattern “\\DFS-Server\Path\To\Folder\” and double click iso –> fail
- Trying to click a link “File://DFS-Server/Path/To/Folder/File.iso” –> fail
- Manually find out the real share unc behind “\\DFS-Server\Path\To\Folder\” (e.g. \\file-server\path\to\folder\), open it and double click iso –> works
- Mounting the DFS path as a drive letter first (net use) and then double click the iso inside that new drive –> works
There seems to be some problem or check in WinCDEmu that makes it impossible to resolve DFS links correctly. Is there a possibility to get rid of this problem, because the possible workarounds are very unhandy.
Used environment:
Windows 7 SP1
WinCDEmu 4.1
