Topic: Can not start kernel-mode debug connection to vmware

My Host:
Desktop : Windows XP(SP2) x64 edition – Pro

When I used 32-bit version of Virtual Machine Monitor(vmmon.exe):

The “Pipe Name” never changes from “loading…”

When I use 64-bit version of Virtual Machine Monitor (vmmon64.exe)

VMware crashes.
Please comment. Any help is highly appreciated.

Other notes:
1> I have installed “vminstall.exe” in the x64 windows server 2008 guest
2> My 32-bit XP(SP3) – Pro Laptop works flawlessly for same steps mentioned above
issue is only with my x64 desktop
3> I have installed both x64 and x86 versions of windbg(on host). I also have installed wdk 7.10.(on host)
4> VisualDDk also does not works and the error is similar to “http://forum.sysprogs.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1244“
5> For individual preference, I always modify following reg of my host(just FYI):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion]
ProgramFilesDIr: F:installed
ProgramFilesDIr (x86): F:installed_86
CommonFilesDir: F:commonFiles

same problem with 2.8 version.
Why update when you do not want to fix bugs ?

My apologies, I didn’t see the article you pointed to.

Is there any logs?

Maybe a long shot, have you tried to download and install the WinXP DDK?
Also maybe try sysinternals procmon. Look for things like “File not Found” that vmmon64.exe is trying to find.
