I have the exact same issue as described in this post (but with VS 2022) from a couple years ago, however the suggested solution does not help as that registry entry does not exist.
The color of the highlight is fine in the light theme.

It makes writing code really frustrating due to not being able to read the variable names… What can I do to solve this?
