I have upgraded Visual Studio to 2015 and reinstalled VisualGDB 5 beta 4. Now, each time when I am trying to open any file in VisualGDB project I see:
“Cannot connect to the smart tag backend. Do you want to attempt fixing this by resetting the MEF cache?”. I agree and restarted Visual Studio. But next time, when I am trying to open anything I see exactly the same error.Best regards,
Krzysztof BzowskiJuly 23, 2015 at 20:03 #6735supportKeymasterCan you try uninstalling VisualGDB, restarting and installing it again? If this does not help, please let us know which other VS extensions you are using.
July 24, 2015 at 08:11 #6738kbzowskiParticipantUninstalling, rebooting, and installing again did not fix the problem.
This is info about my installation. AFAIK I am using only Resharper.

July 24, 2015 at 08:41 #6742btbassParticipantI get the same problem using the Community version?
July 24, 2015 at 12:19 #6743a.geroldParticipantI got the same problem after updating from Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise RC to Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise.
I uninstalled the RC Version incl. Visual GDB 5 beta, then installed Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise & Visual GDB 5 beta again.
The pop-up comes up everytime I open a sourcefile for editing or searching.
July 25, 2015 at 01:41 #6754lainParticipantI am also experiencing this issue with Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise & Visual GDB 5.0 beta 4, and I had also recently uninstalled VS 2015 RC to update to the release version. The pop-up shows every time I open a source file for editing or searching as well.
July 25, 2015 at 06:32 #6755supportKeymasterHi,
Thanks everyone, we got a repro. Looks like the final build of VS2015 initializes editor extensions in a different way causing a problem with VisualGDB. We will release a hotfix within the next 24 hours.
July 26, 2015 at 05:31 #6757supportKeymasterPlease try this build: http://files.sysprogs.com/tmp/VisualGDB-5.0.13.470.msi
July 26, 2015 at 06:27 #6758lainParticipantBazis, I am no longer getting the error with the build you linked 🙂
However, I’m not seeing the smart tags for renaming things. My testing is on an Embedded project written in C++, I haven’t tried other project types to see if they exhibit the same problem.
July 26, 2015 at 06:53 #6759lainParticipantBazis, disregard my mention of the smart tag issue — I was just doing it wrong, it’s working fine!
July 27, 2015 at 07:57 #6761kbzowskiParticipantIt fixed the problem. Thank you.
