When I mount a bootable ISO with WinCDEmu, VMWare does not detect the drive as a Disc Drive and does not boot from it. The ISO works because I can select it directly in VMWare’s settings and the Virtual Machine will boot from it.
VMWare will still show the drive in a Virtual Machine, but it shows the drive as some sort of disk drive, at least in Windows guests.
Just a follow-up: As long as I select the appropriate type (e.g. “CD-ROM”, “DVD-ROM”) VirtualBox handles these mounts without issue. It appears that VMWare doesn’t know how to support these mounts.
A side question: Do I have a way to change the type that the mount dialog selects by default? (I’d like to default to “DVD-ROM”, rather than “Data disc”.)
