While I very much admire and respect the software authors.. my initial experience with WinCdEmu was NOT very good.
After installation on WinXP.SP3 (32bit) and a trial run.. Windows Explorer would inexplicably hang. That is ok, I thought, I will just uninstall and give the next version a try.
I ran the WinCdEmu uninstall, and RUT ROH {he says in his best Scooby Doo voice}. Windows explorer continued to hang.
I then looked inside the registry, BaziVirtualCd entries were still all over the place, loading services and drivers, even though the uninstall had been run!
I ran the wcdcleanup.exe program.. it errored out on a Bazi registry key not found message. Windows explorer continued to hang.
I then considered manually cleaning the registry.. which is when I noticed all my CD file associations (.ISO, .BIN, .NRG, etc.) had been hijacked.. with no way of getting the original file associations back.
This left me no choice but to do a ‘System Restore’ which fortunately brought me back to a full running state (with a modicum of pain).
BEWARE! Create a system restore point BEFORE trying/using this software. If things do not work out when you try/use the software, you will be happy you did.
